Service Ministries

As disciples of Jesus Christ and empowered by God’s Spirit, we have true freedom to love and serve God and other people.  Our Mission Team leads our efforts to engage in several local, regional and international mission efforts.  In addition to the ones mentioned below, we also participate through our connectional giving in the mission efforts of our district, conference and denomination.

Head Start Child Support.  Our congregation has adopted a child in the Head Start program, providing support and supplies for the child.

Interfaith Hospitality Network.  We support the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN), a ministry which helps homeless families in the greater Johnson City area. IHN is an ecumenical ministry using area churches to house these families for one week at a time as they work to find new jobs and homes. As a support church, we are responsible for certain days, cooking dinner, providing people to serve the meal and offer hospitality to spend the night at the church with the families.

Rockhold Food Pantry.  Throughout the year, we collect food and money to support the food pantry maintained at Rockhold UMC.

JC District Mission Team 2010

Czech Mission Team.  In cooperation with our Johnson City District churches, we have sent several church members on mission teams to the Czech Republic.  In July 2011, 5 church members will participate in the ministry of a sports camp.

Holston Home for Children.  Every fifth Sunday, we collect a special love offering to support the ministries to orphans of the Holston Home for Children.

Robinson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church.  Once a month on Communion Sundays, we collect a special love offering to support this sister congregation that shares our Wesleyan heritage.

Change for Children.  During the season of Lent, we collect a special offering to support the ministries of Change for Children, administered by the Holston Conference of The UMC.
