Organ Dedication Service, Sunday, Nov. 6

We would like to invite you to a special celebration to dedicate a new organ in our Sanctuary at 2:30 pm on Sunday, November 6, 2011.  The dedication will include playing of the organ by special guest musicians.  A reception will follow the dedication.

The organ is a Roland C-380 Classic Organ, which provides a magnificent pipe sound in a classical organ with an attractive, elegant dark oak finish.  It features an authentic, reverberant organ sound and outstanding playability.  With two 61-note manual keyboards with tracker action and a 30-note concave pedalboard, the C-380 gives organists the experience of playing a real pipe organ.  It is capable of a variety of different organ styles ranging from Baroque organs of the 17th and 18th centuries, on which Bach wrote his masterpieces, to large romantic organs that were used in concerts in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

We have received the organ as a generous gift from Dr. Ronald and Edith Carrier in memory of their mothers, Melissa Miller Carrier and Mary Kate Pectol Johnson.  It will be a wonderful day to celebrate and remember them as faithful servants of Christ Jesus.

We hope you can join us!

What’s Going On, November 4, 2011

On Sunday, Nov. 6, our Enough series sermon is titled Defined by Generosity.  You will receive a Personal Goals and Commitment sheet.  What defines your life? Is it wealth? Belongings? Faith? Many of us live with a scarcity mentality, worried that we must gather and hoard as much as possible, saving for some imagined “rainy day.” Or we focus on self-gratification. But the Bible promises both God’s blessings and joy for those who choose to live another way. During Sunday’s service, we will take action to change our lives by setting five specific personal goals to work toward over the next year. We invite you to complete a “Personal Goals and Commitment” sheet and place it in your Bible for your personal reference in the coming year.  One of these five commitments is your estimate of giving for the coming year. This coming week, you will be receiving an estimate of giving Commitment Card in the mail. On a practical level, we ask our members to turn in estimate of giving cards to help us evaluate our ministry budget for the coming year. This allows us to make the most of every dollar given to the church. On a personal level, the Commitment Card is an opportunity for you to spend time in prayer and reflection, considering what offering you would make to God through our church in the coming year. Please be watching for the mailing; then fill out the card and bring it with you to worship one of the next two Sundays, Nov. 13 or Nov. 20.

Wednesday night Bible study, 6:45 pm, in the Sanctuary.  We are continuing our study of the book, Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity and Generosity.

Poinsettias for Christmas.  The Worship Committee has ordered 30 poinsettias to decorate the Sanctuary ad Wesley Center alters for Christmas.  You may now sign up and purchase a plant to honor or in memory of a loved one.  The sign up and purchase envelope will be in the church office.  These flowers will be available at $5.00 each on a first come/first serve basis with delivery scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 10.

Food Alert.  Local churches will gather here at BCUMC for the Charge Conference at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, Nov. 22.  Since our church is hosting the event, please plan now to bring refreshments to be served after the meeting.

Thank you.  We want to thank everyone who helped us after the house fire.  Each and every little thing anyone done, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

As part of our Commitment Sundays on November 13 and 20, we hope you will bring canned food to give during the offering in worship.  The food will be donated to the Rockhold Food Pantry.
