Sunday, Dec. 2, begins our season of Advent, leading up to the Christmas season. Advent is a season of the church year during which we prepare our hearts for Christ’s coming. Advent is the beginning of the liturgical year for Christians. Liturgical — from liturgy, which means the forms and functions of public worship. The dates of Advent vary each year, but it always contains the four Sundays before Christmas Day.
Sunday, December 9, is Invite A Friend Sunday. We would like each person who regularly attends worship to be praying specifically for someone and to invite them to come to worship that Sunday. We will celebrate Invite A Friend Sunday the second Sunday of each month. Of course, you can invite a friend to come any time, but we hope you will make a special effort for Invite A Friend Sundays. The Advent/ Christmas seasons are great times to invite someone!
Raise the Roof! The roof on the Sanctuary and Education Building has been completed! We expect work to begin on the Wesley Center in a few weeks. The projected cost of the project is $36,561. We welcome your donation to help take care of our buildings that serve as our hub for sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with our community and world. Checks can be made payable to Bluff City UMC and write “Raise the Roof!” in the memo line.
Can you give an hour or two to help in the church office? Betty will be out of the office on Thursday, December 20 and Wednesday and Thursday, December 26 and 27. Volunteers are needed to cover the phones, print and fold bulletins and be available to our members. If you could spare an hour on either of these days, that she will be gone, please contact Betty at the church office.
Poinsettias for Christmas. The Worship Committee has ordered 30 poinsettias to decorate the Sanctuary and Wesley Center alters for Christmas. You may now sign up and purchase a plant to honor or in memory of a loved one. The sign up and purchase envelope will be in the church office. These flowers will be available at $5.00 each on a first come/first serve basis.
