Today is our Commitment Sunday. All congregation members are asked to pray about their financial commitment to giving in 2014, and present that on the Commitment Card in worship during our offering time. We pray that you will recognize the spiritual dimensions and necessity of giving, and do this as an act of worship, an offering to God. We encourage you to consider the Biblical expectation of the tithe, giving 10% of your income to Christ’s Church. Your tithe should be given to the general fund of the church to support our collective ministries. Giving to a designated cause is “second-mile” giving, over and above the tithe. If you think that you are not able to give the tithe, then we encourage you to give proportionally to your income and still make a commitment to giving. Regardless of what you give, we hope you will do it in a spirit of generosity that Jesus invites us to. For those unable to make the commitment today, we will also have an opportunity to return the Commitment Card in worship on November 24 or you can turn it into the church office. What we do with our money is a sign of our trust in God.

A February 2014 trip to the Holy Land is being organized by our Holston Conference’s Bishop Mary Virginia Taylor for spiritual growth of new elders, such as our Pastor Dan. Pastors are encouraged to take their spouses along when possible. We are blessed to have Dan as our Pastor and Samantha as a member of our congregation leading our growing youth ministry. Dan has worked extremely hard since he has been with us making contributions with his background that few pastors in Holston Conference would be able to do. At a recent Church Council meeting, it was agreed that our congregation continue to support Dan and Samantha financially for this trip as much as possible. Funds, presently available to Dan and Samantha toward a total cost of $5,800, is $2600 from your generosity already, budget funds designated for Dan, and Conference support of $1,000. This leaves a balance of $3,200. You can make contributions toward the Holy Land trip by designating “Continuing Education for Pastor Dan.”
