News and Announcements for the Week of June 15

Today is Trinity Sunday, a celebration of the Triune nature of God — that God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Today is also Peace With Justice Sunday, which is one of our six special Sundays in our United Methodist Church.  Peace with justice witnesses to God‘s demand for a faithful, just, disarmed, and secure world.  One-half of the offering given will stay in our conference to develop ministries of peace with justice; the other half will go to the denomination to be used world-wide in developing such ministries.  To give an offering for Peace With Justice, make a check payable to our church and write “Peace With Justice” in the memo line; or place cash in an envelope and write “Peace with Justice” on the envelope.

We welcome in worship some cast members of Bristol Theatre’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, including Nick Reynolds in the role of Joseph and Laura O’Bryan in the role of the Narrator.  We are grateful for their presence today to help lead in worship.  The cast and crew include several members of our congregation: Hyacynth Barbera, Jazz Strachan, Kaylie Crain, Zaiah Gray, Luke Gray, Camille Gray and Dan Gray.  Samantha Gray is the producer.  The Joseph production will be at the Paramount Center for the Performing Arts on June 20, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29.  For more info, visit www.theatrebristol.org.

During our 11:00 am worship, we are doing Prayers of the People differently.  Everyone is invited to write prayer celebrations or concerns on the back of the blue Connection Card and place it in the offering plate during the Offering.  Our worship leader will retrieve the cards during our worship service and share the concerns aloud.  Please indicate clearly on the card if you do not wish for a particular concern to be shared aloud.

Vacation Bible School will be held the week of July 13-16, from 6:30 pm—8:30 pm.  Anyone interested in helping, please call Judy Finney at (423) 946-7944 or email her at justjudy1313@gmail.com.  All help will be appreciated.

Volunteer(s) Needed—to scan into the computer the book of Bluff City United Methodist Church history published in 1983. This will need to be done anytime Mondays or Fridays or in the mornings of Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.  Betty will instruct on how to scan—it is very simple!  If anyone is interested, please contact Betty in the church office.

Life Groups have launched!  There are currently three groups:  D3 Women’s Health group led by Samantha Gray and Jane Bellamy; Sisters of Strength Women’s group led by Jin Lane and Joan Williams; and a men’s group led by Mike Miller and Tony Lunden.  Please use the blue Connection Card to sign up for one of the groups by listing in the “My Next Steps” section the names of group leaders for the group you are interested in, and place the card in the offering plate during worship.  If you have an idea for another type of Life Group not listed, please indicate it in that section on the Connection Card.  Please see the bulletin insert for more info.

The 3D Life Group, led by Samantha Gray and Jane Bellamy, will meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at 5:30 pm in the Wesley Center.  The next meeting will be Wednesday, June 25.

The Sisters of Strength Life Group Meeting will be held the 3rd Thursday of each month in the Wesley Center from 11:00 AM—1:00 PM.  The next meeting will be June 19.

Our meeting will include a time for getting to better know each other, a devotion, and planning for inward and outward mission projects. Please notify Tony Lundin or Mike Miller at least by Tuesday, July 1  if you plan to attend.
