On Communion Sundays, usually the first Sunday of each month, we collect a special offering to share with our brothers and sisters at the Robinson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church. Claiming our oneness in Christ Jesus and to help bridge the racial divide in our culture and because of our shared Wesleyan heritage, we support that congregation with a gift of $100 per month. During Communion, you can bring your offering forward. You can make a check payable to Bluff City UMC and write “AME Zion” in the memo line.

Cox House Celebration is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014. We will have Sunday School at the church at 9:00 am. Then 10:30 am worship at the Cox House, led by Rev. Grady Winegar, a retired Elder and previous Kingsport District Superintendent who has researched Holston Conference history and Cox House history extensively. In worship, our praise band will lead bluegrass gospel songs. The Cox House Celebration is in lieu of our regular worship services. Following worship, Rev. Winegar will present on his recent research concerning the Cox House that examines the documented history concerning important dates of the Cox family and house. His research raises questions about the beginning dates of our congregation. He will also be available for a question and answer session. We will also share a covered dish luncheon at the Cox House. If weather prevents our celebration on the grounds of the Cox House, we will follow this modified schedule with all activities at the church. Bring a dish, a chair, and some friends to celebrate our heritage!

New Life Group for Singles and Couples. We have begun a new Life Group! Based on Acts 2 and modeled by the first Christians, Life Groups meet regularly to allow the group members a time of sharing a meal, fellowship, praying together, growing together, caring for one another, and serving together. This new group is for male and female adults, as singles or as a couple. We do not plan for the group to focus on couple or marriage or family issues, but want to begin a group that couples can be in together. If there is enough interest, we could launch another group later that focuses on marriage and family issues. But that is not this group. This is open to any adult, and you are always welcome to bring someone new. Pastor Dan and Samantha Gray will co-lead it the first year, with Dan and Lelia Perry also providing leadership.
Children are welcome to come and play with other children, but we will not have programming for them. Instead of the first and third Tuesday, we will meet on the first and third Friday. Our next meeting is Friday, Sept. 19, at 6:30 pm at the Gray’s home. Hope you can join us! Let Pastor Dan know if you can come — firstname.lastname@example.org or 423-956-3524.
