News and Announcements for the Week of October 19

We welcome Tommy Forrester to share our message in worship.  Tommy led one of our Johnson City District mission teams to the Czech Republic this past summer.  Today is also Laity Sunday, in which our denomination recognizes the importance of each lay person in the ministry of Christ’s Church.  A lay person, or laity, is distinguished from a clergy person.  Methodism, in all its roots, has a long history celebrating and recognizing the ministry of the laity.  In the early days of American Methodism, the laity served and maintained congregations between visits of the circuit riders (the clergy). Today, lay people are the front line of daily ministry at the workplace, in the home and within the community.  We need the whole Body of Christ as we seek to become more vital congregations who make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world!

Leadership and Vision Team will meet Tuesday, 10/21, at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall. Team Members are:  Mike Miller, Nancy Forrester, Bobbie Warden, Beverly Smith, Judy Wright, Alicia Ronquillo, Jin Lane, Samantha Gray, Kim Lundin, Dan Perry, Tony Lundin, Jack Hurlbert, Judy Finney, and Dan Gray.

Our Fellowship Dinner will be held Wednesday, October 22 at 6:00 PM in the  Fellowship Hall.  The Circle of Faith are hosting.  The menu will be a baked potato bar, salad and dessert. Come enjoy the meal and the fellowship of your brothers and sisters in Christ!  Adult Bible Study will follow at 7:45 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.  Children and Youth Programs will also be a 7:45 p.m. in their respective classrooms.

Charge Conference is Sunday, Oct. 26, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Elizabeth’s Chapel UMC. Charge Conference is our annual meeting of our church where officers are elected for the coming year. It also receives reports, reviews and evaluates the total mission and ministry of the congregation, and adopts objectives and goals recommended by the Church Council. It also recommends candidates for the ordained and diaconal ministry to the District Committee on Ordained Ministry or to the Conference Board of Diaconal Ministry. The district superintendent calls the meeting and presides over it. Anyone may attend the meeting. All members of the Church Council are members of the Charge Conference and expected to attend.

Mobile Soup Kitchen Project.  If anyone is interested in helping with the mobile soup kitchen project, please see a Mission Team member.  We need soup cooks, deliverers,  and monetary donations.  We will be feeding the hungry and providing nourishment for many  in our town who need a warm cup of soup and the love of God.

The Christmas Hope Tree.  The Ministry and Missions team are taking the names of children for our Christmas Hope Tree.  If you know of a child in need of some help at Christmas, please give their name and information to Kim Lundin so we can get them on “The Hope Tree” this season.

Halloween Trunk or Treat is just around the corner and this means that it is time to collect candy and/or donations for the treat bags.  We are planning to do 500 treat bags.  Please drop off your bags of individually wrapped candies in the box in the Communication/Information Center outside the church offices or leave in the kitchen of the Wesley Center by  Sunday, October 26 .
