News and Announcements for the Week of November 2

Today is All Saints Sunday, celebrated on the first Sunday in November to commemorate all Christian people of every time and place. All Saints Day is November 1. The term “saints” in the New Testament usage refers to Christians collectively. We celebrate the communion of saints as we remember the dead, both of the Church universal and of our local congregation. We remember those who have died since the last All Saints Day.

On Communion Sundays, usually the first Sunday of each month, we collect a special offering to share with our brothers and sisters at the Robinson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church. Claiming our oneness in Christ Jesus and to help bridge the racial divide in our culture and because of our shared Wesleyan heritage, we support that congregation with a gift of $100 per month. During Communion, you can bring your offering forward. You can make a check payable to Bluff City UMC and write “AME Zion” in the memo line.

Sunday, November 9, is Invite A Friend Sunday. We would like each person who regularly attends worship to be praying specifically for someone and to invite them to come to worship that Sunday. We will celebrate Invite A Friend Sunday the second Sunday of each month. Of course, you can invite a friend to come any time, but we hope you will make a special effort for Invite A Friend Sundays.

Next Sunday, November 9, we officially begin our capital campaign, The Door Beyond, to help purchase the Cowan property so we can expand our ministries in our community.  Please note that in lieu of our regular Sunday School gatherings at 10:00 am, everyone — children, youth and adults — are asked to gather on the Cowan property to celebrate as we pray together and begin our campaign. In case of bad weather, we will all gather at 10:00 am in the Fellowship Hall. Please be in prayer for our congregation as we seek to honor God with our ministries.

Dear Sisters and Brothers, Thank you so much for your generous Pastor Appreciation gifts! Samantha and I are overwhelmed by your generosity! Thanks for your prayers and support!  We are honored to serve among you.

Grace and peace, Pastor Dan and Samantha

Congratulations to Jennifer Newman and Benjamin Jones, who were married in our church on October 25. Pray for God to bless their marriage.

Mobile Soup Kitchen Project.  If anyone is interested in helping with the mobile soup kitchen project, please see a Mission Team member.  We need soup cooks, deliverers, and monetary donations.  We will be feeding the hungry and providing nourishment for many  in our town who need a warm cup of soup and the love of God.

The Christmas Hope Tree.  The Ministry and Missions team are taking the names of children for our Christmas Hope Tree.  If you know of a child in need of some help at Christmas, please give their name and information to Kim Lundin so we can get them on “The Hope Tree” this season.
