News and Announcements for the Week of February 1

On Communion Sundays, usually the first Sunday of each month, we collect a special offering to share with our brothers and sisters at the Robinson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church . Claiming our oneness in Christ Jesus and to help bridge the racial divide in our culture and because of our shared Wesleyan heritage, we support that congregation with a gift of $100 per month. During Communion, you can bring your offering forward. You can make a check payable to Bluff City UMC and write “AME Zion” in the memo line.

Our second Sunday of each month is Invite A Friend Sunday.  We would like each person who regularly attends worship to be praying specifically for someone and to invite them to come to worship that Sunday.  Of course, you can invite a friend to come any time, but we hope you will make a special effort for Invite A Friend Sundays.

News and Announcements for the Week of January 18

Human Relations Sunday is one of six Special Sundays celebrated by The United Methodist Church that includes a missional emphasis and an offering for specific purposes approved by General Conference. The emphasis on this day is community development, youth development, and restorative justice; and the special offering collected supports church- and community-based ministries that engage such purposes. The proximity to the Martin Luther King, Jr.,  holiday is intentional — to help communities live out the dream that all people of every race and nation may embrace and be judged not on “the color of their skin, but the content of their character.”  To contribute to these justice and mercy ministries, place a check in the offering plate with “Human Relations Sunday” marked on the memo line or place cash in an envelope marked “Human Relations Sunday.”

Leadership Training, TODAY, Jan. 18, 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall.  All ministry team leaders and committee chairs are asked to be present for this once-a-year training.  We will cover some basics of leadership, leading a meeting, setting goals, working with the budget, communications, and our church organization.

Thank You to all who have given their Church Ministry Budget Pledge Cards for 2015!  Thank you for prayerfully considering what offering you will make to God through our church. Your gifts are an act of worship and a participation in the ministries of God through us. Our prayer is that you will find greater contentment and simplicity in your life as you put God first in your giving and your living. May we all experience the joy that comes from knowing that our gifts honor God and change lives!  If you have not turned in your pledge, please turn it in to the church office.

The District Strategic Planning Team is planning a series of events designed around the feedback provided to them during the recent Charge Conference gatherings.  The first event (Event I) will be held Sunday, February 8 from 2:00—3:00 pm at Wesley Memorial UMC.  More information will follow.
