News and Events for October 18

At our last Annual Conference, our delegates pledged that we would encourage each church member to give 10 hours of service this year to children in poverty in our community.  We hope that you are working toward that goal, and will encourage that in your Sunday School, Life Group, UMM, UMW, Circle of Faith, youth ministries, children’s ministries, etc.

FYI—Wednesday Night meals are open to the entire church as well as children and youth.   Our meal this Wednesday will be Beef & Noodles, Green Beans, Salad and Dessert.  Donations are needed to supply the kitchen as well as to continue feeding our youth and children.  All funds for the kitchen is by donation only.

Finance Team will meet at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, October 20, in the Fellowship Hall.  Team members are:  Tony Lundin (Chair), Nancy Forrester, Betty Malone, Jack Hurlbert, Elaine Good, Herman Carrier, Michael Forrester, Lelia Perry.

To allow the Finance Team to meet, the Leadership & Vision Team meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, has been cancelled.

Johnson City District Lay Servant Training at Cokesbury JC (formerly Cherokee) will be on Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 8:30  a.m.—4:30 p.m.  Registration fee is $25.00 and needs to be returned by Wednesday, October 28.  Please see office for more information.

Church Council will meet on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall.   Members are:  Nancy Forrester, Lelia Perry, Bobbie Warden, Alicia Ronquillo, Herman Carrier, Kim Lundin, Jin Lane, Samantha Gray, Betty Malone, Dan Gray, Wendy Finney, Brian Ronquillo, Dan Ronquillo, Josh Hodges, Melissia Perkins, Wilma Boy, Tony Lundin, Jane Bellamy, April Hodges, Dan Perry, Betsy Carrier, Jack Hurlbert, Michael Forrester, Joan Williams, Bret Finney, Elaine Good.

Charge Conference is Sunday, Nov. 8,  at 3:00 pm at Cokesbury Church—Johnson City.  All members of Church Council should plan to attend.

On Thursday, October 22, Bluff City UMC will host a program called “Are You Cyber Safe?”  The program is open to the public and will discuss safety on an online world.  The program will begin at 7:00 In the Fellowship Hall.  Topics that will be covered include:

New credit cards
Passwords/Encryption
Social media/Privacy/Social Engineering
Open DNS
Children’s Safety
Viruses/worms/trojans
Safety Resources

If you use the Internet, you should attend.  Please invite family and friends, especially those with young children.
