Today is our fourth Sunday in Advent. Advent is a season of four weeks including four Sundays that prepare us for Christmas. Advent derives from the Latin adventus , which means “coming.” The season proclaims the comings of the Christ — whose birth we prepare to celebrate once again, who comes continually in Word and Spirit, and whose return in final victory we anticipate. The Advent wreath is a simple circle of evergreen branches, a sign of life without end; its four Advent candles encircle a central white Christ candle.
Our Christmas Eve worship service will be at 7:00 pm on Thursday, Dec. 24, in the Sanctuary. This is a great time to invite people to worship. During the service, we will receive a special offering for the various ministries supported by our General Fund.
On Wed., Dec. 23 and Wed., Dec. 30 , we will not have our regular Wednesday evening activities , i.e., dinner, children and youth programs, adult Bible study, and choir. Enjoy the time with your families and friends!
Thanks to all who have made Generosity Commitment pledges to support the mission of Jesus Christ through our congregation in the coming year. If you have not had the opportunity to consecrate our personal financial giving commitments for the coming year, you can place your yellow Financial Giving Commitment Card in the offering plate during worship, or deliver it to the church office.
At our last Annual Conference, our delegates pledged that we would encourage each church member to give 10 hours of service this year to children in poverty in our community. We hope that you are working toward that goal, and will encourage that in your Sunday School, Life Group, UMM, UMW, Circle of Faith, youth ministries, children’s ministries, etc.
THE CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PROGRAM will be held tonight, Sunday, December 20 at 6:00 PM in the Sanctuary. Refreshments will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Please bring your favorite finger food.
On Sunday, December 27, we will have only one combined worship service at 10:55 a.m. in the Sanctuary in the contemporary style. Sunday School classes will meet as normal at 10:00 a.m.
