News and Events for January 17

Human Relations Sunday is one of six Special Sundays celebrated by The United Methodist Church that includes a missional emphasis and an offering for specific purposes approved by General Conference. The emphasis on this day is community development, youth development, and restorative justice; and the special offering collected supports church- and community-based ministries that engage such purposes. The proximity to the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday is intentional — to help communities live out the dream that all people of every race and nation may embrace and be judged not on “the color of their skin, but the content of their character.” To contribute to these justice and mercy ministries, place a check in the offering plate with “Human Relations Sunday” marked on the memo line or place cash in an envelope marked “Human Relations Sunday.”

Leadership Dedication Sunday is today. We will recognize our 2015 leadership and dedicate our 2016 leadership in both worship services. We are grateful for our 2015 leaders who have served so faithfully!

News and Events for January 10

Baptism is one of our two sacraments in The United Methodist Church, along with Communion. Baptism is a means of God’s grace, an outward sign of God’s inner work of grace. Baptism recognizes that God moves first in the work of our redemption and initiates our covenantal relationship. We respond to God’s grace by putting off the old self, renouncing sin and the evil powers of the world, and pledging our loyalty to Christ.  Baptism marks our acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, the beginning of our new life in Christ, the gift of the Holy Spirit upon us, and our initiation into Christ’s Holy Church.  For more information on our understanding of baptism, visit http://www.umc.org/what-we-believe/baptism .

For worshippers interested in renewing the promises they have made at their baptism, we invite you to participate today during the worship service in the Reaffirmation of the Baptismal Covenant and the Baptismal Remembrance . If you have not received the sacrament of Baptism and are interested in doing so, please talk with Pastor Dan to arrange a time.

Our second Sunday of each month is Invite A Friend Sunday.
