Human Relations Sunday is one of six Special Sundays celebrated by The United Methodist Church that includes a missional emphasis and an offering for specific purposes approved by General Conference. The emphasis on this day is community development, youth development, and restorative justice; and the special offering collected supports church- and community-based ministries that engage such purposes. The proximity to the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday is intentional — to help communities live out the dream that all people of every race and nation may embrace and be judged not on “the color of their skin, but the content of their character.” To contribute to these justice and mercy ministries, place a check in the offering plate with “Human Relations Sunday” marked on the memo line or place cash in an envelope marked “Human Relations Sunday.”
Leadership Dedication Sunday is today. We will recognize our 2015 leadership and dedicate our 2016 leadership in both worship services. We are grateful for our 2015 leaders who have served so faithfully!
Leadership Training is TODAY from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall. All ministry team leaders and committee chairs are asked to be present for this once-a-year training. We will cover some basics of servant leadership, leading a meeting, setting goals, working with the budget, communications, and our church organization.
Our youth group will attend the Resurrection Youth Retreat in Pigeon Forge from January 22-24. Please pray for our young people, their leaders, and the experience they will have. As we offer financial assistance to youth in need for this event and others, we invite you to give a special offering to support our youth ministries. Please make a check payable to the church and write “Youth Ministries” in the memo line.
Thanks to all who have made Generosity Commitment pledges to support the mission of Jesus Christ through our congregation in the coming year. If you have not had the opportunity to consecrate our personal financial giving commitments for the coming year, you can place your yellow Financial Giving Commitment Card in the offering plate during worship, or deliver it to the church office.
