News and Events for April 3

On Communion Sundays, usually the first Sunday of each month, we collect a special offering to share with our brothers and sisters at the Robinson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church . Claiming our oneness in Christ Jesus and to help bridge the racial divide in our culture and because of our shared Wesleyan heritage, we support that congregation with a gift of $100 per month. During Communion, you can bring your offering forward. You can make a check payable to Bluff City UMC and write “AME Zion” in the memo line.

Our second Sunday of each month is Invite A Friend Sunday. We would like each person who regularly attends worship to be praying specifically for someone and to invite them to come to worship that Sunday. Of course, you can invite a friend to come any time, but we hope you will make a special effort for Invite A Friend Sundays.

On Nov. 23rd, 2014, the District Conferences of both the Johnson City and Kingsport Districts voted to list Buffalo Mountain Camp for sale.  The Nature Conservancy and the Conservation Fund have agreed to purchase the upper 488 acres in trust for the National Forest Service.  (There is also a possibility that we might have an offer for the lower portion of the camp at this meeting as well.)   At that District Conference, we said that we would bring this matter back to the District Conferences when the time came to sell the property.  The date we will have our District Conference is Sunday, April 3rd at 3:00 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Johnson City.  The Kingsport District will be conducting a simultaneous District Conference at the Colonial Heights United Methodist Church.

The camp board as well as the Johnson City and Kingsport District Trustees have given their approval for the sale of the upper portion and we hope to have a proposal ready for the lower portion by the time of our district conference.

All clergy and laity in the Johnson City District are welcome to attend. The following are voting members of the District Conference: Local church lay leader, chair of the administrative council or administrative board and council on ministries, presidents of United Methodist Youth, United Methodist Women, and United Methodist Men, finance committee chairperson or treasurer, all members of the district leadership team, chairpersons of all district boards and committees, district treasurer, annual conference lay members and at-large lay members, diaconal ministers, deacons in full connection, and pastors serving within the district.
