Thank you to all who have given so generously towards our shared Holston Conference and Johnson City District ministries to children in poverty. Our 13 backpacks filled with school supplies that are bound for Liberia’s orphans combined with others from our Johnson City District for a total of 800 kits , surpassing our goal of 400. The Annual Conference celebrated three truckloads of Hands-on Mission supplies of school, health, and food kits for Liberia and Zimbabwe, with a total of 9,018 kits valued at $221,334 .

Lelia Perry, our Lay Member to Annual Conference, presented at Annual Conference our Change for Children offering that you gave in the amount of $260.78. Our offering was combined with other Holston Conference churches to bring the total to $57,698. These gifts will be used to fund grants for ministries with children, ½ in the Holston region and ½ in Africa.

Lelia also presented our Annual Conference Mission Offering that you have given, amounting to $85. Our gifts combined with other churches totaled $100,849 . Like last year, this Annual Conference Mission Offering will be used in ministry with children in poverty in our Holston region. Our conference goal is to raise $10 per person for each worship attendee. In addition and like last year, each person is asked to give 10 hours of service this year to children in poverty in our community. If you are looking for ways to give your 10 hours of service, please talk with Kim Lundin, our Ministry & Missions Chair.

At Annual Conference, our Holston churches also gave 88 bags of children’s books . The books are to be used as conversation-starters for congregations planning to begin new partnerships with nearby schools. Also, Annual Conference volunteers helped bag 14,000 pounds of potatoes during a Society of St. Andrew “crop drop.” The potatoes will be distributed to area pantries and Holston groups feeding the hungry.

Next Sunday, Kent Pugh, the chaplain of the Sullivan County jails, will present the message during worship. We invite you to bring a special offering to support his ministry with inmates.

News and Events for June 5

We celebrate Communion today. On Communion Sundays, usually the first Sunday of each month, we collect a special offering to share with our brothers and sisters at the Robinson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church. Claiming our oneness in Christ Jesus and to help bridge the racial divide in our culture and because of our shared Wesleyan heritage, we support that congregation with a gift of $100 per month. During Communion, you can bring your offering forward. You can make a check payable to Bluff City UMC and write “AME Zion” in the memo line.

Our second Sunday of each month is Invite A Friend Sunday. We would like each person who regularly attends worship to be praying specifically for someone and to invite them to come to worship that Sunday. Of course, you can invite a friend to come any time, but we hope you will make a special effort for Invite A Friend Sundays.
