News and Events for June 5

We celebrate Communion today. On Communion Sundays, usually the first Sunday of each month, we collect a special offering to share with our brothers and sisters at the Robinson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church. Claiming our oneness in Christ Jesus and to help bridge the racial divide in our culture and because of our shared Wesleyan heritage, we support that congregation with a gift of $100 per month. During Communion, you can bring your offering forward. You can make a check payable to Bluff City UMC and write “AME Zion” in the memo line.

Our second Sunday of each month is Invite A Friend Sunday. We would like each person who regularly attends worship to be praying specifically for someone and to invite them to come to worship that Sunday. Of course, you can invite a friend to come any time, but we hope you will make a special effort for Invite A Friend Sundays.

Pastor Dan will be at the Holston Annual Conference at Lake Junaluska, NC beginning Sunday, June 5 thru Wednesday June 8Lelia Perry will also be there as the BCUMC lay delegate to Holston Annual Conference.

We welcome Victoria “Tori” Giblin as a new staff member with our church. Tori began on June 1 as our part-time youth ministry director, working 10 hours a week. Tori graduated from Milligan College with a B.A. in Bible and an emphasis in missions. She also has Minors in Theatre and Sociology. She did a ministry internship in Mexico, working with youth and children, and has helped with youth group at her home church. She is also serving a part-time interim youth ministry position through the summer at Munsey Memorial UMC in Johnson City, and has commitments to them that we will work with. She will usually be at Munsey on Sunday mornings and with us on Wednesday evenings. She will also help us get better organized with our overall youth ministries, such as mission projects, social outings, and fundraisers. We will introduce her to the  congregation at worship on Sunday, June 26. We hope you will extend a special welcome to Tori and ask how you can help her with our ministry with youth.

Thank you to all who have given so generously towards our shared Holston Conference and Johnson City District ministries to children in poverty. Last week we delivered the 13 backpacks filled with school supplies that are bound for Liberia’s orphans . Also, Lelia Perry, our Lay Member to Annual Conference, will present at Annual Conference our Annual Conference Mission Offering that you have given, amounting to $85.00 and Change for Children, amounting to $260.78. Like last year, this Annual Conference Mission Offering will be used in ministry with children in poverty in our Holston region. Our conference goal is to raise $10 per person for each worship attendee. In addition and like last year, each person is asked to give 10 hours of service this year to children in poverty in our community. If you are looking for ways to give your 10 hours of service, please talk with Kim Lundin , our Ministry & Missions Chair.
