News and Events for July 31

We welcome Dr. Joel Brister to share the message today. Joel is a pastor, Christian educator, and administrator.  After pastoring churches for over 20 years, God has led Joel to minister at Chick-fil-A.  While admitting he would probably never be back in student ministry, God certainly has a sense of humor by placing him in a position where 80% of his team members are under 24.  He enjoys affecting change in the lives of those he works with, and giving them a foundation on which to build for the rest of their lives.  He is married to Christy, and they have two sons, Jacob and Michael.  They are about to embark on a new journey in Houston, Tx.  Joel has also performed in several community theatre performances in the TriCities, including his recent role of Charley Cowell in Theatre Bristol’s The Music Man .

National Night Out—August 2, 2016—We are invited to join Piney Flats United Methodist Church on Tuesday, August 2, from 6:00 pm for a FREE community celebration.  National Night Out is a community building campaign that promotes community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.  Come out and meet local police departments, fire departments, rescue squads and community agencies that are here to protect and help.  Bring a lawn chair and enjoy hot dogs provided by Piney Flats UMC, music presented by East High School Bluegrass Band, plus lots of fun and games.  For more information, contact Piney Flats UMC at 538-6937.

We are grateful to Tori Giblin for her service as our Youth Ministries Director.  Tori has ended her employment with us to pursue ministry teaching English in Kosovo for 1 year.  Please pray for her transitions and ministry.

Wednesday Night meals are open to the entire church as well as children and youth.  Our meal this Wednesday will be Sloppy Joes, French Fries, salad and dessert.

Donations are needed to supply the kitchen as well as to continue feeding our  youth and children.  All funds for the kitchen are by donation only.

News and Events for July 3

We celebrate Communion today. On Communion Sundays, usually the first Sunday of each month, we collect a special offering to share with our brothers and sisters at the Robinson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church . Claiming our oneness in Christ Jesus and to help bridge the racial divide in our culture and because of our shared Wesleyan heritage, we support that congregation with a gift of $100 per month. During  Communion, you can bring your offering forward. You can make a check payable to Bluff City UMC and write “AME Zion” in the memo line.

Our second Sunday of each month is Invite A Friend Sunday. We would like each person who regularly attends worship to be praying specifically for someone and to invite them to come to worship that Sunday. Of course, you can invite a friend to come any time, but we hope you will make a special effort for Invite A Friend Sundays.
