News and Events for October 16

Today in worship we celebrate Children’s Sabbath and our children and their leaders.  Children leading the worship are: Gabe Altizer, John Busby, Caden Carrico, Joshua Durham, Matthew Durham, Gabi Francis, Zaiah Gray, Kylee Stantz. Samantha Gray will share the message. Special thanks to Paula Durham and Jane Bellamy for helping the children develop this worship service.  Scripture and drama by the children sign language  “Fruit of the Spirit.”

Children’s Sabbath is an annual celebration that aims to unite religious congregations of all faiths across the nation in shared concern for children and common commitment to improving their lives and working for justice on their behalf. As United Methodists, our roots rest in the care for those who are vulnerable, especially children. During this important celebration, we join with other denominations and religions to bring to light the plight of children in a “bigger and more powerful and more inspiring way than the efforts of any one  congregation” or denomination can accomplish on its own. We are grateful to the many wonderful leaders in our ministries with children in our congregation.

Charge Conference is Sunday, October 30 . We will host several other  congregations.

Our Apple Butter Making party will be at Ike & Andi Fleenor’s home, 3478 Weaver Pike, Bristol, on Saturday, Oct. 22. Please make plans to come out at 8 am and stay through the day. We’ll make apple butter in big kettles over an open fire, to benefit our church’s missions efforts in our community and throughout the world. It is a great way to serve Christ while getting to know each other.

Our youth are meeting at 5:00 pm TODAY to attend the Johnson City District Youth event, Farmapalooza , on a farm in Jonesborough. We will enjoy hot dogs, smores, group games, worship, and much more! Remember to bring your Registration form signed by your parent/guardian, $3 for the meal, and some extra $ for a Youth Service Fund offering.

At our last Annual Conference, our delegates pledged for a second year that we would encourage each church member to give 10 hours of service this year to children in poverty in our community. We hope that you are working toward that goal, and will encourage that in your Sunday School, Life Group, UMM, UMW, Circle of Faith, youth ministries, children’s ministries, etc.

The Circle of Faith will be having a Spaghetti Dinner after the 10:55 service on Sunday, November 6.  This is a fundraiser for them to be able to do their Christmas projects.  The menu includes spaghetti, salad, texas toast, and dessert.   Please make plans to attend and support the Circle of Faith.

Next month, we will be collecting  monetary donations for Rock Hold Food Pantry so that turkeys can be bought to go into the baskets for Thanksgiving.  You may still bring canned goods and put in the box in the communication center in the Christian Life Center.

On Thursday, November 10, at 10:00 am, there will be a press conference and the launch of the public capital campaign for Camp Bays Mountain.  This is an important event in the development of Camp Bays Mountain. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Boehms, Development Officer, at (423) 921-2702.
