News and Events for October 23

Safe Sanctuaries Open Discussion and Team Meeting, Sunday, Oct. 23, 5:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall. All church members are invited to come and discuss the proposed revisions to the Safe Sanctuaries policy and procedures . Safe Sanctuaries aims to reduce the risk of abuse to children, youth and vulnerable adults; and to protect adult volunteers serving them. Copies of the proposed revisions to the Safe Sanctuaries policy are available on the small table outside the church office. At the end of the discussion, the Safe Sanctuaries Team will go into meeting to consider the discussion and determine if it will reconsider any of the proposed revisions they have recommended to the Church Council. Safe Sanctuaries Team members are: Bobbie Warden, Dan Perry, Donnie Rader, Earl Smith, James Altman, Jane Bellamy, Joan Williams, Lana Butler, Lelia Perry, Luke Gray, Mary Lundin, Nancy Forrester, Valerie Altman, and Dan Gray.

Charge Conference is Sunday, October 30 . All Church Council members are voting members of the Charge Conference and should attend. We will host several other congregations.

At our last Annual Conference, our delegates pledged for a second year that we would encourage each church member to give 10 hours of service this year to children in poverty in our community. We hope that you are working toward that goal, and will encourage that in your Sunday School, Life Group, UMM, UMW, Circle of Faith, youth ministries, children’s ministries, etc.

The Circle of Faith will be having a Spaghetti Dinner after the 10:55 service on Sunday, November 6.  This is a fundraiser for them to be able to do their Christmas projects.  The menu includes spaghetti, salad, texas toast, and dessert.  Please make plans to attend and support the Circle of Faith.

Several years ago, donations were made to a designated fund for the children’s bell choir program (current balance of $194.62) and to a designated fund for the children’s rotation Sunday School ministry (current balance of $102.53).  We have not done these particular ministries since at least 2008 and perhaps before; and do not anticipate doing them again.  We would like to move these funds to the Designated Children’s Ministries fund to be available to more generally support our ministries with children.  If you donated any amount to either the children’s bell choir program or the rotation Sunday School, please contact Pastor Dan to discuss this matter.

Wednesday Night meals are open to the entire church as well as children and youth.  Our meal this Wednesday will be Soup, Sandwich,  Salad and Dessert.  Donations are needed to supply the kitchen as well as to continue feeding our  youth and children.  All funds for the kitchen are by donation only.
