News and Events for February 12

We welcome Rev. Sharon Comage as our preacher today. She is pastor of Robinson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church in Bluff City. We are delighted to share worship this morning with our sisters and brothers from Robinson Memorial. We celebrate our unity in Jesus Christ, our Wesleyan heritage, our Methodist traditions, and February as Black History Month. For more information on the A.M.E. Zion Church, visit their website at http://www.amez.org. We will collect a special offering for the Robinson church. You can make checks payable to “Robinson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church” or to “Bluff City UMC” and write “Robinson AMEZ” in the memo line.

Today, February 12th, we will celebrate Scout Sunday.  Our Girl, Boy and Cub Scouts will be recognized.  Following the 11:00 service, the Boy and Cub scouts will host a fund raising lunch.  Chili will be served.  Come hungry.

There will be a My Job Training Event this afternoon, at 3:00 PM at Colonial Heights UMC. This will be a combined event between the Johnson City District and the Kingsport District. There will be training in Staff/Parish Relations Committees, Lay Leaders, Finance and Trustees, and Stewardship.  This should last approximately an hour and 15 minutes.

The Worship (Overall) Team will  meet Wednesday, February 15 at 8:30 PM (after choir practice) in the Willing Worker’s Classroom.  This meeting is for the purpose of planning through Easter.  Worship Team Members are: Jane Bellamy (Chair), Nancy Forrester, Bruce Stewart, Carole Miller, Kim Lundin, and Dan Gray.

Our memorial gift policy provides that a memorial gift may be designated by the donor to a particular designated fund; and that any undesignated memorial gift will go into our General Fund to support our budgeted ministries.

Several years ago, donations were made to a designated fund for the children’s bell choir program (current balance of $194.62) and to a designated fund for the  children’s rotation Sunday School ministry (current balance of $102.53). We have not done these particular ministries since at least 2008 and perhaps before; and do not anticipate doing them again. We would like to move these funds to the  Designated Children’s  Ministries fund to be available to more generally  support our  ministries with children. If you donated any amount to either the children’s bell choir program or the rotation Sunday School, please contact Pastor Dan to  discuss this matter .
