News and Events for May 21

Today we celebrate Youth Sunday, being led in worship by our youth. We are grateful for the work they and their mentors have put into preparing today’s worship, and excited to see how God will move in our worship time. Our youth praise band is Nick, Kahtrina, Kaitlynn, Luke, James, Camille and Taylor.

Edward Cox House—Our History & Archives Committee need pictures of the Cox House, structure inside and outside, as well as the grounds. Particularly  interested in pictures, drawings, portraits, etc. that go back in time as far as possible, i.e., Christmas at the Cox House.  If you have anything or know someone who might have something that might be copied, please see Betsy Carrier.

The VBS decorating team needs a mirror ball (disco ball) and a couple of lava lamps to be used to decorate the assembly area for VBS.  If you have either of these items that we could borrow, please let Betty Malone or Taylor Lee know.

Volunteers Needed— Volunteers are needed to drive the church  van for Wednesday night and Sunday service. One driver is needed + one other adult every week. If you can help please contact Taylor Lee at (423)956-2919. Thank you for all that you do!

Service Opportunity—Holston Habitat is building a house at 308 W. Chestnut Street in Johnson City, TN.  Tom Bowers, a long-time Site Supervisor with Holston Habitat, will be on-site to help instruct and supervise during the construction. This is an open invitation for individuals, groups, churches and businesses to volunteer to build or to provide food for volunteers on Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays through July 8.  To volunteer, please call Mandy Pen, Volunteer Manager at the Habitat office. (423) 239-7689, ext. 800.

Several years ago, donations were made to a designated fund for the children’s bell choir program (current balance of $194.62) and to a designated fund for the  children’s rotation Sunday School ministry (current balance of $102.53). We have not done these particular ministries since at least 2008 and perhaps before; and do not anticipate doing them again. We would like to move these funds to the  Designated Children’s  Ministries fund to be available to more generally support our  ministries with children. If you donated any amount to either the children’s bell choir program or the rotation Sunday School, please contact Pastor Dan to  discuss this matter .
