News and Events for June 18

The youth trip to Tennessee Wesleyan College is coming up next week.  We are excited to be partnering with Piney Flats UMC for this trip.    If anyone has a 5 gallon igloo jug or a roll cooler we can use for the trip, please contact Taylor Lee at (423) 956-2919.  Thanks so much.

Choir will be on vacation all of July and the first two Sundays in August, July 9—August 13.  Choir practice will resume on August 16.

You are invited to a farewell reception for Walter and Lisa Weikel Today Sunday, June 18, 4:30—6:00 PM at Gray United Methodist Church, 2108 Oak Street, Gray, TN   37615.  Walter has been appointed to First United Methodist Church, Morristown after Annual Conference.

Drop in at any time during the event, or come and stay for the duration.  Cake, punch and finger goods will be provided by local church United Methodist Women units.  There will be a basket available for those who wish to drop off a card or note for Walter and Lisa.

Today we celebrate the ministries of the Czech Mission Team that will serve in Protovin, Czech Republic, June 30 to July 10. Team members are: Tommy Forrester, Jenae Morrissey, Kayla Thompson, JJ Mains,

Britni Mains, and Kailee Brumfield. They will give witness to the love of God in Christ Jesus through building relationships, softball camp, teaching English, and daily Bible devotions. Please pray for the team and the ministries of Christ’s Church there, especially our fellow United Methodist congregations; and that the people of the Czech Republic will become and be disciples of Jesus Christ. During worship, we will invite you to give to two special offerings : (1) to support Tommy’s team specifically; and (2) to support our district Czech ministries which include support of our missionary John Redmond and his family in leading the English-speaking United Methodist church in Prague, and scholarships support for all our district mission teams (i.e., Tommy’s team). For clarity, you may wish to bring a separate check for each of these offerings. You can also give cash or give online, but please note clearly to which offering you are giving, using designations such as “ Tommy’s Mission Team ” or “ District Czech Missions .”

After the 10:55 Worship Service TODAY, there will be a Spaghetti Dinner in the Fellowship Hall.  This is a fundraiser for the Czech Missions Team.

A note from Pastor Dan:

I am delighted to say that I have officially been appointed by Bishop Mary Virginia Taylor to return to Bluff City UMC as pastor for another year. I look forward to serving Christ with you as we try to reach Bluff City and beyond with God’s love and redeeming grace. Thank you for your continued prayers for me and my family. Much love, Dan

Thank you to all who have given so generously towards our shared Holston Conference and Johnson City District ministries to children in poverty. Our 22 backpacks filled with school supplies that are bound for Liberia’s orphans combined with others from our Johnson City District for a total over 800 school kits , surpassing our goal of 400.
