Thank you for your gift to the General Board of Global Ministries through The Advance, the designated mission giving channel of The United Methodist Church.  We are pleased to share that 100 percent of your contribution will go to Ishe Anes Project for Underprivileged children.  Your gift is increasing literacy, employment opportunities, and improving health to reduce poverty in Zimbabwe.  It is because of generous gifts from people like  you that Global Ministries has been able to establish new congregations in communities outside the United States, urge our nation’s decision makers to end hunger, support projects that address issues of child poverty and violence, provide youth with the opportunity to spend their summer in mission service, and improve literacy levels in communities around the world.  These are just a sampling of the programs and ministries that gifts like yours make possible.  Thank you for giving so generously.

Roland Fernandes, General Treasurer
UMC General Board of Global Ministries

News and Events for August 6

On Communion Sundays, usually the first Sunday of each month, we collect a special offering to share with our brothers and sisters at the Robinson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church.  Claiming our oneness in Christ Jesus and to help bridge the racial divide in our culture and because of our shared Wesleyan heritage, we support that congregation with a gift of $100 per month. During Communion, you can bring your offering forward. You can make a check payable to Bluff City UMC and write “AME Zion” in the memo line.

Today is Promotion Sunday , in which we celebrate our children and youth moving up to the next class level in Sunday School and Wednesday night programs. As a congregation, we have pledged to love and nurture them in the faith. We are grateful for our Sunday School teachers and children’s ministry and youth ministry adult servants who give tirelessly to reveal God’s love to our children and youth. Please remember them all in your prayers. We also encourage you to pray for the children, youth, teachers, and administrators returning to school.

Our second Sunday of each month is Invite A Friend Sunday. We would like each person who regularly attends worship to be praying specifically for someone and to invite them to come to worship that Sunday. Of course, you can invite a friend to come any time, but we hope you will make a special effort for Invite A Friend Sundays.

Today we honor Imogene Hicks and Marjorie Rader , the mothers of Linda and Donnie Rader, by dedicating two communion sets in their memory for use in our contemporary worship service.
