In our new worship format, our offering will be given on Communion Sundays by coming forward to the Communion table to give the offering before receiving the Communion elements. An offering is not required or expected in order to receive Communion. Communion is one of our sacraments reminding us of God’s grace freely given through Jesus Christ. On non-Communion Sundays, our ushers will pass offering plates as the congregation remains seated.
The Lord’s table is open to all who know Jesus Christ as Lord or seek Him. If you receive Communion and have not been baptized, please discuss this with Pastor Dan so that we can arrange for your baptism, our other sacrament.
On Communion Sundays, usually the first Sunday of each month, we collect a special offering to share with our brothers and sisters at the Robinson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church. Claiming our oneness in Christ Jesus and to help bridge the racial divide in our culture and because of our shared Wesleyan heritage, we support that congregation with a gift of $100 per month. During Communion, you can bring your offering forward. You can make a check payable to Bluff City UMC and write “AME Zion” in the memo line.
Our second Sunday of each month is Invite A Friend Sunday. We would like each person who regularly attends worship to be praying specifically for someone and to invite them to come to worship that Sunday. Of course, you can invite a friend to come any time, but we hope you will make a special effort for Invite A Friend Sundays.
At its April 15 meeting, the Church Council unanimously approved combining both of our existing Sunday worship services into a single worship to begin at 10:30 am in the Sanctuary. Sunday School will begin at 9:30 am, with a gathering time at 9:15 am. The new worship service begins TODAY, Sunday, May 6 .
Staff Parish Relations Team (SPRC) will meet with District Superintendent Lauri Jo Cranford TODAY, Sunday, May 6 following worship, around 12:30 PM. SPRC members are Michael Forrester (chair), Elaine Good, Kathy Hurlbert, Paula Durham, Bobbie Warden, Linda Rader, Carole Miller, Lane Butler, Valarie Altman, Tony Lundin, Nancy Forrester.
There will be a covered dish dinner on Sunday, June 10 after the service in the Fellowship Hall to honor Pastor Dan and Family as we send them forth on their journey. Please plan to attend. Please let Lelia know what dish you are planning to bring so she can coordinate the meal.
CALLING ALL BCUMC MEMBERS!!!!!
Children are absolutely wonderful, and we are here to help them grow spiritually. You can be a part of that! We are still in need of volunteers to serve in the nursery, elementary, as well as youth on Sundays as one of our amazing youth leaders, Miss Samantha, will be leaving us later this summer. We also need volunteers to assist on Wednesday nights. We aim to begin including childcare for the nursery on both Wednesday and Sundays, and WE CANNOT DO THIS WITHOUT YOU! If we cannot do this, we will be looking to hire paid workers to ensure that this need is met.
We are hoping to create a rotation FOR ALL CLASSES so that as a volunteer you would only be required to sit in one hour per month, or two months, or longer depending on how many volunteers we can get into the rotation. Our Safe Sanctuary policy requires us to have two volunteers in each room. Safe Sanctuary policies are put in place for the safety of our children as well as the workers. If you love children and would like to share your talents, however often, this will allow us to create a rotation that works for everyone involved. Please see Taylor Lee to see how you can help. Thank you!
