News and Events for June 17

We welcome Rev. Fred Balding, to our pulpit today.  Rev. Balding is Director of Development for Good  Samaritan Ministries in Johnson City.  Good Samaritan Ministries is supported by our congregation through our District Fair Share giving, and has offices in Johnson City and Piney Flats.  We will receive a special offering to support Good Samaritan Ministries.

A note from Pastor Dan and family:

Dear Friends, thank you so much for your kind and generous prayers, words, expressions, food and gifts as we all have been transitioning.  We are so touched by your love!  And know that you will always have a special place in our hearts. You remain in our prayers and love.

Dan, Samantha, Camille, Luke and Zaiah

While Pastor Dan will officially remain as our pastor through June 30 and is available for pastoral care, the pastoral transition process established by the Holston Conference has determined that transitioning pastors like Pastor Dan should not perform other  pastoral functions after June 10. Our incoming pastor, Sean Glenn , will not begin work until July 1. In the interim, Tony Lundin , our Lay Leader , is the primary contact on church matters.

Church Council, originally scheduled to meet this afternoon, has been rescheduled for Sunday, July 15 at 4:00 PM.  All committee chairs are asked to bring a written report about accomplishments made so far this year and what is planned for this next quarter.

SPRC will meet Thursday, June 28 at 6:30 pm in the Willing Worker’s classroom.  Michael Forrester is the Chair.  Other members are:  Kathy Hurlbert, Elaine Good, Paula Durham, Bobbie Warden, Linda Rader, Tony Lundin, Carole Miller, Lana Butler and Valerie Altman.

CALLING ALL BCUMC MEMBERS!!!!!

Children are absolutely wonderful, and we are here to help them grow spiritually.  You can be a part of that!  We are still in need of volunteers to serve in the nursery, elementary, as well as youth on Sundays as one of our amazing youth leaders, Miss Samantha, will be leaving us later this summer.  We also  need volunteers to assist on Wednesday nights.  We aim to begin including childcare for the nursery on both Wednesday and Sundays, and WE CANNOT DO THIS WITHOUT YOU!  If we cannot do this, we will be looking to hire paid workers to ensure that this need is met.

We are hoping to create a rotation FOR ALL CLASSES so that as a volunteer you would only be required to sit in one hour per month, or two months, or longer depending on how many volunteers we can get into the rotation.  Our Safe Sanctuary  policy requires us to have two volunteers in each room.  Safe Sanctuary policies are  put into place for the safety of our children as well as the workers.  If you love children and would like to share your talents, however often, this will allow us to create a rotation that works for everyone involved.   Please see Taylor Lee to see how you can help.  Thank you!

There will be a Children’s Ministry meeting on Wednesday, June 20th at 4:30 p.m.

There will be a Youth Ministry meeting on Wednesday, June 20th at 6:00.p.m.
