News and Events for November 18

Today, we welcome the Rev. Ric Wright as the guest evangelist for our series of Revival Services.  Ric is an ordained Elder in Holston Conference, but he is no longer serving under appointment.  He is a General Evangelist within the United Methodist Church ad travels all over the country (and abroad) preaching the word of God.  He is married to his wife, Karen and he has three children.  Please make him welcome!.

The Community Thanksgiving Service will be held here at Bluff City UMC. On Wednesday, November 21 at 7:00 PM.  Dr. Jonathan Feathers of the Bluff City Christian Church will bring the message.

The 2019 Church Council will be meeting for a planning session on Sunday, December 2, at 5:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall.  Members are:  Tommy Forrester (Chair), Tony Lundin, Betty Malone, Nancy Forrester, Michael Forrester, Dan Perry, Jack Hurlbert, Jin Lane, Valerie Altman, Sean Glenn, Elaine Good, Lenny Leonard, Herman Carrier , Mike Miller, Lelia Perry

On Sunday, December 9th from  2-4 p.m., there will be a Christmas Open House at the home of Pastor Sean and Bethany Glenn.  Be watching for more details and for directions.  This will be a drop-in event and all are welcome.

Our Homecoming/125th Anniversary celebration will be held next Sunday,  November 25.  Our goal is to have at least 125 people in worship that day, so please be praying for and inviting people to join us for this momentous occasion.  There will be a turkey/ham dinner furnished by the church with green beans, sweet potato casserole, dressing and gravy. Anyone participating with additional side dishes and desserts would be very much appreciated.  This is taking the place of our traditional Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner.  Everyone is invited to attend so even if you are not bringing a dish or not please plan to come. The most important thing is that everyone show up.  There will be an Open House at the  Cox House from 2:00—4:00 p.m.

Don’t look now, but Christmas is almost here.  Two special events to be aware of:  December 8 is the Bluff City parade.  We need some people to carry a banner and some walking and handing out candy.  Also, on Sunday,  December 16th, our children will be going to see “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” at Theatre Bristol.  If you are interested, please see Jane Bellamy.

Today is First Fruits Sunday!  If you have not received a 2019 Commitment Card, please see an usher or greeter.  By this offering of our “first fruits”, we honor God by giving back to him the best of what we have.

Our Revival starts next Sunday morning!  This week, please be praying for our speaker, Rev. Ric Wright, our congregation, and our community.  May God’s word be proclaimed boldly and may we all be drawn deeper in our relationship with Jesus.  Please invite someone to the Revival as well.  The schedule is Sunday morning at 10:30 and then Sunday—Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m.

News and Events for November 4

Today is All Saints Sunday , celebrated on the first Sunday in November to commemorate all Christian people of every time and place. All Saints Day is November 1. The term “saints” in the New Testament usage refers to Christians collectively. We celebrate the communion of saints as we remember our loved ones who have transitioned into the next life, both of the Church universal and of our local congregation. We remember those who have died since the last All Saints Day.

Our Revival is now only 2 weeks away!  This week, our prayer emphasis is on our community.  Please be praying that hearts will be opened and the invitation to revival will be welcomed.  Let’s pray that lives will be changed by the gospel of Jesus!

To honor our country’s veterans, the Student Council of Sullivan East High School will have a special assembly program on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 9:30 AM in the East High gym.  All veterans are invited to attend.  Refreshments will be served in the library following the assembly.  Call Sullivan East High School at (423) 354-1900 to RSVP with Mrs. Owens.

Next Sunday, November 4, is All Saints Day.  We will be lighting cancles and remembering those in our fellowship who have gone on to the church triumphant this year.  We hope will be a part of this special service.

News and Events for September 23

District Conference will be today, September 23 at 3 PM at Gray UMC.  This will be a celebration of our new district name – Three Rivers.   The Pastor, Lay Leader, and Council Chair should attend.  Anyone else is welcome to attend.

Bluff City Heritage Days will be on Saturday, September 29 and we will be participating again this year.  If you have anything you would like to donate to the church to sell in the yard sale, please see Jack Hurlbert.  We would appreciate things that are in really good condition—NO clothes or shoes.

FURNITURE SALE:  There is furniture for sale to the Church members and acquaintances in the Wesley Center.  There are 2 bedroom suites, a dining room suite and china cabinet.  Pricing is negotiable.  See Jack Hurlbert, Mike Miller, or Elaine Good for more information.
