The Youth will be leaving on Friday afternoon, January 25 for Resurrection in Pigeon Forge.  They will be returning the afternoon of Sunday, January 27.  Permission forms must be back to Valerie Altman by January 25.

SPR Team will  meet after worship service (11:45 AM), January 20, 2019, in the Willing Worker’s Classroom.  Team members are:  Michael Forrester (Chair), Bobbie Warden, Carole Miller, Valerie Altman, Elaine Good, Linda Rader, Tony Lundin.

Please be in prayer for all those involved in the upcoming Special Session of the General Conference February 23-26.  This Conference will be to examine paragraphs in The Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality and exploring options to strengthen the unity of the church.  Please pray for our Bishops and the delegates from around the world as they gather to  make decisions about the future of our church.

Today the children will be attending “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” at Theatre Bristol.  If you are riding on the church van, please be in the parking lot by 1:30 PM.  Thanks to a generous member for treating our kids!

The Christmas  Open House at Pastor Glenn’s has been rescheduled for 2-4 PM on Sunday, December 30.

On Sunday, December 23, instead of Sunday School, there will be a church-wide Christmas Party in the Fellowship Hall at 9:15 AM.  Coffee, hot chocolate and hot cider will be served.  If you desire to bring a breakfast item, please let Lelia Perry know.

For the upcoming quarter, the Faithful Disciples SS class will study the Epic of Eden series that the church has been using for the Wednesday Bible Study.  Anyone who began the series and got behind as well as others who are interested in this study are invited to join the class this quarter.  The series will begin on December 9.  The class will begin promptly at 9:30 to allow as much time as possible for the study.

The Nativity in the front yard has been given to the glory of God in memory of Brian Durham.

Today is our Homecoming and 125th Sanctuary Anniversary!

We are so glad you chose to come and worship with us today as we celebrate this momentous occasion.  Immediately following worship will be a holiday meal in the Fellowship Hall, complete with turkey/ham and all the trimmings.  We encourage everyone to stay for lunch, even if you didn’t bring anything.  Let’s enjoy some good food and fellowship.

This afternoon, from 2-4 PM, there will be a Holiday Open House at the Edward Cox House.  The home is decorated beautifully, so take advantage and come out to visit this important piece of our Methodist heritage.  The Cox House is on Sells Road, here in Bluff City.

A Thanksgiving praise to the memory of Ann Mann for her gift of research on the history of our Methodist roots in this church.

The Bluff City Christmas Parade is coming up on December 8th.  We will be marching in the parade and we need as many folks as are able to participate.  Please sign if you are willing to join in the fun.  We will be handing out candy and flyers about pictures with Santa in the Wesley Center—not to mention representing BCUMC and the Lord Jesus Christ!

On Sunday afternoon, December 16th, the kids will be traveling to Theatre Bristol to see  “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.”  All tickets for the children are being donated, but we need a head count.  Please see Pastor Sean or Jane Bellamy if you’d like to go.

News and Events for November 18

Today, we welcome the Rev. Ric Wright as the guest evangelist for our series of Revival Services.  Ric is an ordained Elder in Holston Conference, but he is no longer serving under appointment.  He is a General Evangelist within the United Methodist Church ad travels all over the country (and abroad) preaching the word of God.  He is married to his wife, Karen and he has three children.  Please make him welcome!.

The Community Thanksgiving Service will be held here at Bluff City UMC. On Wednesday, November 21 at 7:00 PM.  Dr. Jonathan Feathers of the Bluff City Christian Church will bring the message.

Pastor Sean is forming a new prayer team.  If you would be interested in joining this important ministry, please see Pastor Sean at the end of the service.

Our Homecoming/125th Anniversary celebration will be held next Sunday,  November 25.  Our goal is to have at least 125 people in worship that day, so please be praying for and inviting people to join us for this momentous occasion.  There will be a turkey/ham dinner furnished by the church with green beans, sweet potato casserole, dressing and gravy. Anyone participating with additional side dishes and desserts would be very much appreciated.  This is taking the place of our traditional Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner.  Everyone is invited to attend so even if you are not bringing a dish or not please plan to come. The most important thing is that everyone show up.  There will be an Open House at the  Cox House from 2:00—4:00 p.m.

Don’t look now, but Christmas is almost here.  Two special events to be aware of:  December 8 is the Bluff City parade.  We need some people to carry a banner and some walking and handing out candy.  Also, on Sunday,  December 16th, our children will be going to see “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” at Theatre Bristol.  If you are interested, please see Jane Bellamy.
