News and Events for the Week of October 13

There will be a Called Church Council Meeting immediately following worship service on Sunday, October 20. The Fellowship meal will be at 5:15 pm this Wednesday,10/16. The menu will be  pizza, salad, and dessert. Youth, Children and Adult programs begin at 6:00 PM and Choir Practice at 7:00 PM.

Apple Butter Making—Saturday, October 19—7:00 AM until finished.

Ikan Farm—3474 Weaver Pike, Bristol. Help needed all day.  Come for the day or an hour or two.  Supplies needed (bring to church by Wednesday, Oct. 16)  Sugar, jars (quart or pint), two piece lids (lids and rings).  This is our primary fund raiser for mission projects.

Church Council has voted to begin replacing the tables and chairs in the Fellowship Hall.  We have been able to obtain a group price for one table and 8 chairs.  The tables will be rectangular and the chairs will be foldable white composite.  Each grouping is $374.50.  We are seeking individuals, groups or classes that might like to sponsor a table set.  If you are unable to provide a whole set, but would like to contribute, you may do that as well.

Our Charge Conference is Sunday, September 27, at 3 PM and it will be held at Blountville UMC.  All of Church Council is encouraged to attend, but everyone is welcome.  This will be a celebration of what God has done through our church in the last year and we will be celebrating with several other churches as well. 

Trunk or Treat will be October 31 from 5-7:30 pm at the Wesley Center.  If you would like to donate candy or help with the event, please see Lelia Perry or Megan Burke.  There will be a tub for candy donations in the Information Center.

The youth and children will be going to Stickley Farm on Tuesday, the 15th for a fun evening of fall festivities.  We will meet at the church at 5:00 PM.  The cost has been discounted to only $9.60 per person.  If you’d like to go and are unable to cover the cost, please see April Bridgeman or Megan Burke.

We are celebrating “Heritage  Sunday” today.  We welcome the Milligan College Singers.  There will be a catered lunch immediately following worship service in the Fellowship Hall.  All are invited to attend.

There will be a SPR meeting today, September 29 at 4:00 PM in the Willing Workers Classroom.  Team Members are:  Bobbie Warden, Michael Forrester (Chair), Carole Miller, Valerie Altman, Elaine Good, Linda Rader and Tony Lundin.

Rev. Ric Wright will be back again to lead us under the theme “Living Water”.  BCUMC will host Sunday night, Rockhold UMC will host Monday night, Piney Flats UMC on Tuesday night and Edgefield UMC on Wednesday.  All services will be at 6:30 PM.  

September 15 is National “Back To Church” Sunday.  Please be thinking and praying about who you’d like to invite to come back to church that Sunday. We are planning a special service for the day.

The weekly schedule for Fall resumes this week.  Our Fellowship meal will be served at  5:30 in the Fellowship Hall.  This week’s meal is  Skillet Lasagna and Salad.  Youth, Children and Adult programs begin at 6:00 PM and Choir Practice at 7:00 PM.

We are in the process of updating our children’s classrooms and there are a few items that we need:  2 bulletin boards, 2 easels with chart paper, small storage bins and a TV for the theatre room.  If you would like to contribute to this ministry, please note “Children” on the memo line or see Pastor Sean or Megan Burke.

Our youth will have a “Back to School” pool party at the home of CP and Jin Lane this afternoon at 5 PM.  All 6th-12th graders are invited!  Food and drinks will be provided.  Contact Hallie Burk at 615-243-3301 for more information.  Regular Wednesday night youth activities will begin on August 21st at 6 PM.

Our children will be having their Fall kickoff event on Wednesday night, August 21 starting at 5:30 PM.  We will be sharing a meal together and then have some special activities.  This is for all kids up to 5th grade!

The Sunday Morning Bible Class, led by Tony Franklin, just started a new series.  The series is called The Intercessory Life:  A Missional Model for Discipleship and will last 6-8 weeks.  If you are not currently in a class, you are invited to join in this new study.

News and Events for August 4

The 200th Sulphur Springs Camp Meeting begins today!  This year, Bishop David Graves will be the guest preacher and there will be special music nightly as well.  Special Music begins at 6:30 and preaching at 7:00.   The dates are August 4—7.

Mark your calendars!  The Church Family picnic is scheduled for Saturday, August 10 at the Hurlbert’s, 1821 Pleasant Grove Road.   Activities will begin at 3:00 PM for young and old alike.  There will be a campfire where young folks can do their own hot dogs, marshmallows and other tasty preparations.  There will be kickball, water slide, hiking and bean bag toss for all to enjoy.  For just old-fashioned fun and “jawing”, ample seating and shade is guaranteed.  Special music will soothe the soul.
