Nominations Team will be meeting August 26 at 6:00 PM  in the Willing Workers Classroom.   Members are:  Sean Glenn (Chair), Tony Lundin, Priscilla Keene, Elaine Good, Herman Carrier, Betty Malone, Kathy Hurlbert.

Our Fall Wednesday night Bible study will begin this Wednesday, August 28th.  We will be using the Epic of Eden series again.  All are welcome to attend, even if you did not purchase a book.  We will meet in the Fellowship Hall.

The weekly schedule for Fall resumes this week.  Our Fellowship meal will be served at  5:30 in the Fellowship Hall.  This week’s meal is  Skillet Lasagna and Salad.  Youth, Children and Adult programs begin at 6:00 PM and Choir Practice at 7:00 PM.

We are in need of 4 volunteers (one per week) to help with the Wednesday night program.  If you would be willing to help, please contact Megan Burke at 341-6572.

Mark your calendars for our upcoming Cluster Revival on September 8-11.  Rev. Ric Wright will be back again to lead us under the theme “Living Water”.  BCUMC will host Sunday night, Rockhold UMC will host Monday night, Piney Flats UMC on Tuesday night and Edgefield UMC on Wednesday.  All services will be at 6:30 PM.

News and Events for August 18

We are in the process of updating our children’s classrooms and there are a few items that we need:  2 bulletin boards, 2 easels with chart paper, small storage bins and a TV for the theatre room.  If you would like to contribute to this ministry, please note “Children” on the memo line or see Pastor Sean or Megan Burke.

Our youth will have a “Back to School” pool party at the home of CP and Jin Lane this afternoon at 5 PM.  All 6th-12th graders are invited!  Food and drinks will be provided.  Contact Hallie Burk at 615-243-3301 for more information.  Regular Wednesday night youth activities will begin on August 21st at 6 PM.

The Sunday Morning Bible Class, led by Tony Franklin, just started a new series.  The series is called The Intercessory Life:  A Missional Model for Discipleship and will last 6-8 weeks.  If you are not currently in a class, you are invited to join in this new study.

The 200th Sulphur Springs Camp Meeting begins today!  This year, Bishop David Graves will be the guest preacher and there will be special music nightly as well.  Special Music begins at 6:30 and preaching at 7:00.   The dates are August 4—7.

Mark your calendars!  The Church Family picnic is scheduled for Saturday, August 10 at the Hurlbert’s, 1821 Pleasant Grove Road.   Activities will begin at 3:00 PM for young and old alike.  There will be a campfire where young folks can do their own hot dogs, marshmallows and other tasty preparations.  There will be kickball, water slide, hiking and bean bag toss for all to enjoy.  For just old-fashioned fun and “jawing”, ample seating and shade is guaranteed.  Special music will soothe the soul.

There will be a SPR meeting this afternoon at 4:30 PM.  Members are: Bobbie Warden, Michael Forrester (Chair), Carole Miler, Valerie  Altman, Elaine Good, Linda Rader, and Tony Lundin.

News and Events for July 28

Today (Sunday), we welcome Rev. Clarence G. Dishman as our speaker.  Clarence is a native of Washington County, Virginia.  He is married to Betty and they have three children, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.  Clarence is a graduate of Virginia Tech and Asbury Theological Seminary.  He pastored for 42 years in Holston Conference prior to his retirement in 1998.  Today, he fills in for pastors as needed and enjoying cattle farming.  Please make Clarence and Betty feel welcome here at BCUMC.

Our Outreach Team will be selling apple butter at the upcoming  Piney Flats Days on Saturday, August 3.  We need a few people that would be willing to work a 2-hour shift.  Please see Nancy Forrester or Lelia Perry if you would be willing to help.  Also, come out and enjoy the day! The event is at Mary Hughes School from 9AM to 5PM.

Sulfur Springs Camp Meeting

August 5—8, 2018

The 199th annual Camp Meeting will feature a great variety of music nightly beginning at 6:30. Our speaker this year will be Micah Nicolaus. We will kick off Camp Meeting on Sunday, August 5 with our local mission hands-on project with Rise Against Hunger (formerly Stop Hunger Now). This will be our 3rd year in this partnership. We need volunteers at 3:00 to help set up and then we need about 80 people to help pack 10,152 meals in less than 2 hours. This is a great inter-generational project and we welcome all ages. The cost for one meal is 29 cents, so please bring a donation from yourself or your group (ex- $29 will pay for 100 meals!!). We will also be having our annual Youth Gathering on Sunday at 3:00 with Micah speaking to the youth and the Sulphur Springs praise band leading this time of youth worship.

School Supplies are needed for Sullivan County students for the new fall year. Suggested donations include: wide rule paper, ballpoint pens (black or blue), colored pencils, markers, composition books (wide-rule) and glue sticks. School supplies will be distributed the week of July 15. Please drop off your donations in the office by Monday, July 8.
