News and Events for February 3

Church Council will meet on February 10th at 4 PM in the Fellowship Hall.   All ministry teams need to meet prior to this meeting.

The Outreach team will meet at 6:00 PM on Monday, February 4  in the Willing Worker’s classroom.  Team Members are:  Nancy Forester (Chair), Lenny Leonard, Kim Lundin, Barbara Gilmer, Dan Perry, Jane Riley, Tony Lundin, Joan Williams, Tommy Forrester.

Trustees will be meeting Tuesday, February 5, at 6:00 pm.  Members are:  Jack Hurlbert (chair), Donnie Rader, Selena Lane, Lelia Perry, Jay Altman, and Bruce Stewart.

Please be in prayer for all those involved in the upcoming Special Session of the General Conference February 23-26.  This Conference will be to examine paragraphs in The Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality and exploring options to strengthen the unity of the church.  Please pray for our Bishops and the delegates from around the world as they gather to make decisions about the future of our church.

The Family Resource Center (which is associated with Sullivan County Schools), is in need of the following food items as they have many to help in these cold winter months:  Ravioli, tuna, Vienna sausage, juice, fruit cups, pudding cups, instant potatoes, cereal.  If you would like to make a donation of any of these items, please bring them to the church office by the 27th and we will get them delivered.  Thanks!

Help keep our Sanctuary looking its best!  We are looking for 4 (or families) who would sponsor a new seasonal flower arrangement for the altar.  These can be gifts in memory of or in honor of someone as well.  Estimated cost is $100 each.  If you would be willing to purchase a new arrangement, please see Pastor Sean or you can drop a check in the offering plate with “Flowers” in the memo line.  Thank you!

We will be collecting food staples and monetary donations for the Rockhold Food Pantry during the next two Sundays.  If you prefer to give a monetary donation, please write “Rockhold” on the memo line of your check and place in the offering plate.  Your donations are greatly appreciated.

News and Events for November 18

Today, we welcome the Rev. Ric Wright as the guest evangelist for our series of Revival Services.  Ric is an ordained Elder in Holston Conference, but he is no longer serving under appointment.  He is a General Evangelist within the United Methodist Church ad travels all over the country (and abroad) preaching the word of God.  He is married to his wife, Karen and he has three children.  Please make him welcome!.

The Community Thanksgiving Service will be held here at Bluff City UMC. On Wednesday, November 21 at 7:00 PM.  Dr. Jonathan Feathers of the Bluff City Christian Church will bring the message.

The 2019 Church Council will be meeting for a planning session on Sunday, December 2, at 5:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall.  Members are:  Tommy Forrester (Chair), Tony Lundin, Betty Malone, Nancy Forrester, Michael Forrester, Dan Perry, Jack Hurlbert, Jin Lane, Valerie Altman, Sean Glenn, Elaine Good, Lenny Leonard, Herman Carrier , Mike Miller, Lelia Perry

On Sunday, December 9th from  2-4 p.m., there will be a Christmas Open House at the home of Pastor Sean and Bethany Glenn.  Be watching for more details and for directions.  This will be a drop-in event and all are welcome.

Pastor Sean is forming a new prayer team.  If you would be interested in joining this important ministry, please see Pastor Sean at the end of the service.

Our Homecoming/125th Anniversary celebration will be held next Sunday,  November 25.  Our goal is to have at least 125 people in worship that day, so please be praying for and inviting people to join us for this momentous occasion.  There will be a turkey/ham dinner furnished by the church with green beans, sweet potato casserole, dressing and gravy. Anyone participating with additional side dishes and desserts would be very much appreciated.  This is taking the place of our traditional Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner.  Everyone is invited to attend so even if you are not bringing a dish or not please plan to come. The most important thing is that everyone show up.  There will be an Open House at the  Cox House from 2:00—4:00 p.m.

Don’t look now, but Christmas is almost here.  Two special events to be aware of:  December 8 is the Bluff City parade.  We need some people to carry a banner and some walking and handing out candy.  Also, on Sunday,  December 16th, our children will be going to see “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” at Theatre Bristol.  If you are interested, please see Jane Bellamy.

We will be starting a new 12 week Bible study – Epic of Eden – the week of September 9.  If you are interested in this study, please sign up and indicate if you’d prefer Sunday night or Wednesday night.  The cost of the book is $15.

Donations are being collected for school supplies for the Bluff City Elementary and Middle Schools for children who’s parents cannot afford to buy supplies.  If you are led to support this ministry, please write “school supplies” on the memo line of your check.  All donations are appreciated.

A Call to Arms!  Muscle-bound volunteers are needed to move furniture that has been stored in one of the rooms on the 3rd floor.  Select pieces of the furniture will initially be situated for viewing in the upstairs hallways to allow our church members first chance to acquire (by donation) any of the items.  Eventually the leftovers will be relocated to the Wesley Center to be included in our Heritage Days Yard Sale.  First moving day is Saturday August 25.  Volunteers are asked to be here at 9:00 AM.
